Through Trinity Wealth Management
Sustainable Investing is when investments are made in socially and environmentally responsible companies to generate long-term financial returns and social impact.
At Trinity Wealth Management we believe that as faithful stewards of God’s creation, it is our moral duty to invest in ways that align with our Christian values and contribute to the betterment of society and the environment. Ethical (or Socially Responsible) investing allows us to do this.
The financial services industry is legendary for its use of jargon – in this instance you have Sustainable Investing, ESG Investing and Impact investing – and as such it is difficult to navigate for those who are looking at investing ethically.
At Trinity Wealth Management we offer a range of solutions which cover the differing requirements our clients want from their socially responsible portfolios allowing our clients to align their financial goals with their faith.
Our approach is guided by the biblical ethical principles of stewardship, justice, and compassion and look to invest in companies that promote ethical practices, environmental sustainability, and social responsibility. We believe that by doing so, we can not only generate positive financial returns for our clients, but also make a positive impact on the world we live in.
Traditional Ethical Investing
Alternatively it may be more about what isn’t invested in. This is known as ‘negative screening’ or ‘exclusionary investing’. Ethical investors will typically look to avoid investing in companies which are negatively impacting society or the environment.
This will include alcohol, tobacco, adult entertainment and gambling as well as controversial weapons and non-renewable energy.
ESG Investing
ESG stands for Environmental, Social and Governance and is defined as ‘a set of standards for a company’s behaviour used by socially conscious investors to screen potential investments’.
This is the broadest area of sustainable investing, as there is a degree of subjectivity in choosing which companies to hold in a fund.
However, ESG fund managers have the opportunity, as shareholders, to engage with companies to encourage them to change poor practices.
It is important to check whether the fund managers are using their influence as shareholders to engage with the Board and to vote where required.
ESG Investing still involves a degree of negative screening, but can be seen to have the potential for greater impact.
Social Impact
From a Christian perspective, the social impact of investments is crucial. It is important for clients to know that their capital is being used to create a positive impact on both the environment and society, and this impact should be measurable. In 2015, the United Nations introduced the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, which serve as a benchmark to evaluate the impact of investments.
At Trinity, we firmly believe that our clients’ capital can be used to make a difference in this world. As Christians, we understand the significance of responsible stewardship. Therefore, all of the personal savings of Trinity’s owners are invested in ways that align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
We recognise that achieving these goals requires collective effort and wisdom. That is why we seek guidance from reputable third-party sources when necessary. By combining our expertise with the insights provided by these external partners, we are confident in our ability to offer a suite of active and passive sustainable investing solutions that meet the needs of most investors who share our desire to see their capital used for good.
In summary, Trinity Wealth Management recognise that sustainable investing is not just about financial returns; it is about making a positive difference in the world through responsible investing. We believe that as Christians, we have a unique opportunity to be intentional with our investments and actively contribute to the creation of a more just, sustainable, and inclusive society. By incorporating our Christian perspective into our investment strategies, we aim to create a better future for our clients and for generations to come.
